Neighbors Team Up: Officials from throughout northern New Mexico gathered  in Espanola to kick off a regional economic development initiative. Shown (left to right) are RDC Executive Director Ed Burckle, Santa Fe Mayor David Coss, Espanola Mayor Joseph Maestas, Taos County Commissioner Gabriel Romero, Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya, Los Alamos County Councilor Robert Gibson and Rio Arriba County Commissioner Alfredo Montoya.

A formal kickoff for Los Alamos County's regional economic development initiative took place in early January at the historic San Gabriel Mision y Convento in Espanola. The event was attended by officials from the city and county of Santa Fe, the city and county of Taos, the city and county of Espanola, the county of Rio Arriba and from Los Alamos County.
All participants gathered to show support of this new and exciting initiative.
Los Alamos County approved a contract for $250,000 with the Regional Development Corporation (RDC) to serve as part of the County's "Progress through Partnering" initiative. The contract authorized RDC to create an economic development plan for northern New Mexico. This strategic plan will act as a guide for the next 25 years and contain projects to be implemented by the County.
Stakeholders, which include regional tribes, chambers of commerce, the health care and education segments and others, are being  interviewed,  to determine consensus of what projects will have the best chance for success in Northern New Mexico. It is an important first step in bettering communication and cooperation in the region. Regional Development Corporation
Regional Development Corporation (RDC),   Clovis Industrial Development Corporation, Eastern NM Economic Development Alliance, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, and the Rural Alliance, invite you to attend a conference in Tucumcari, on April 2-3, 2008 to learn about the benefits of renewable energy, the technology that is available, and the incentives that are in place. Come meet renewable energy companies from the State and the region at an expo, network with colleagues and friends, and explore potential new projects.http://www.renewnm.com/
New Mexico is ranked 12th in the nation for wind potential, amounting to approximately 5,000 MW of wind energy that could be developed, and is ranked 2nd in the nation for solar potential. Other sources of energy such as Dairy Biomass contain tremendous potential for energy generation as well as helping to clean up the environment. New Mexico has an RPS of 20% by 2020 for Investor-Owned Utilities (IOU), and 10% by 2020 for the Rural Electric Coops. The state recently invested in the North American Wind Research & Training Center, to be located in Tucumcari. There are many incentives to develop renewable resources, and New Mexicans are uniquely positioned to take advantage of these incentives and renewable energy resources- we invite you to capitalize on these resources and be a part of a new energy economy for New Mexico.
